He enlisted in Winnipeg, Manitoba, 2nd August, 1915 stating his occupation as a railwayman, and his next of kin as his father, William Hadfield, of 73, High Street East, Glossop. He had previously served with the 100th Winnipeg Grenadiers. He was five feet three inches in height, had a fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair, and he belonged to the Church of England.
